MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture Program Lecture: Chad W. Beckerman
Chad W. Beckerman is an award-winning designer and creative director focusing on design, strategy, and directing illustration and images for stories.
His design philosophy is that for every book, whether it’s a series, picture book, or one-off novel, it is the job of design to help create a world in which the reader becomes invested. The book’s package is what first reaches out to the reader, drawing them in to the editorial experience.
Beckerman oversaw the design of more than 40 New York Times bestsellers. He is the designer behind such successful and recognizable series as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Questioneers (Iggy, Rosie, and Ada), among others. He has received wide recognition for his work, including Caldecott Honor, Newbery Medal, Corretta Scott King Award, and a Society of Illustrators Gold Medal.
