S.J. Surgener
S.J. Surgener is a photographer, illustrator, and exhibiting artist from St. Louis, Missouri. His mixed media work explores themes of identity and cultural experience through analogous relationships imbedded in material processes. Surgener’s illustrations have been featured in American Illustration 44, and awarded by Society Illustrator LA. His commercial photography has supported advertising campaigns and local organizations and international brands alike. He previously served as the Communications Coordinator for the City of Columbia and the Imaging Projects Coordinator for the Missouri State Records Archive. He earned an MFA in Illustration and Visual Culture from Washington University in St. Louis in 2026.
