Ian Trivers

Ian Trivers is a Zuckerman Post-Doctoral Fellow jointly with the Sam Fox School and the Fair Transport Lab at Technion–Israel Institute of Technology. Current research focuses on a neglected but important topic in transport research: bus stops. He aims to examine bus stops not only as a vital element of a fair transport system, but also explore their potential as urban design elements that shape urban form and promote livability. Other research interests and activities include urban redevelopment and design, urban vacancy and shrinking cities, and sustainable urbanism.

Trivers holds a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning from the University of Michigan and a master of planning from the University of Southern California. He has been a Rockefeller Redevelopment Fellow at the Center for Urban Redevelopment Excellence at the University of Pennsylvania working on post–Hurricane Katrina recovery in the Gulf Coast, and interned at the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design. Trivers’ professional experience includes working as an investment officer at the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations’ Housing Investment Trust; and a land use project coordinator for Kaiser Permanente, working on major capital investments in healthcare facilities. At Washington University, Trivers has coordinated the doctor of sustainable urbanism program and taught classes on metropolitan development, research methods, sustainable urbanism, urban design studio, and more.
