AnnaMarie Bliss
AnnaMarie Bliss, PhD is the Associate Director of Recruitment and Admissions and a Lecturer in Architecture in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. Her work in recruitment and admissions spans three universities and thousands of students of the course of her career. She is passionate about helping students find their best educational fit and securing outstanding classes for the Sam Fox School.
AnnaMarie’s scholarship concentrates on the socio-spatial and haptic aspects of historic preservation design triggering changes in the environmental perception of users. She developed critically acclaimed photo-methods for architecture and tourism and writes on ethical research practices in design scholarship. She teaches research methods for designers that engage the person-environment relationship, public health, historic preservation, and design for health and wellness.
Her research and design work exemplify award-winning quality with a multitude of national and international recognitions including the Architectural Research Centers Consortium Dissertation Award in 2020 and King Medal for Excellence in 2019. Her writing and scholarship have been featured in TAD Journal – Technology | Architecture and Design, Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change, and several invited chapters in edited volumes on environmental psychology and cultural heritage preservation. Her recent publications include her co-edited books Place Meaning and Attachment: Authenticity, Heritage and Preservation and Architectural Factors for Infection and Disease Control. Dr. Bliss has worked at various local and national firms in healthcare design and historic preservation. She is the founder of Bliss Historic Preservation and Consulting, a historic preservation architecture firm.
