Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Visiting Artist Lecture: Judith Barry
Judith Barry is an artist and writer whose work combines a number of disciplines including installation and project-based research, film/video, architecture/exhibition design, performance, dance, sculpture, photography, and digital media. She has exhibited internationally at such venues as the Venice Biennale(s) of Art/Architecture, Sharjah Biennial, Sao Paolo Biennale, Nagoya Biennale, Carnegie International, Whitney Biennial, Sydney Biennale, and Documenta, among many others. Her awards include the Kiesler Prize for Architecture and the Arts (2000) and Best Pavilion at the Cairo Biennale (2001). She is a 2011 Guggenheim Fellowship recipient.
“Public Fantasy,” a collection of Barry’s essays, was published by the ICA in London (1991). Other publications include “Projections: mise en abyme” (1997), “The Study for the Mirror and Garden, Museum José Guerrero in Granada, Spain” (2003), and “Body without Limits, Salamanca, Spain” (2009).
Her work is included in the collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum; Generali Foundation, Vienna; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Le Caixa, Barcelona; Museum of Contemporary Art, Barcelona; FNAC, Paris; Goetz Collection, Munich; Frac Lorraine, Metz; and Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Miami; among others. A survey of her work traveled in Europe and was last on view at Berardo Museum in Lisbon in 2010.

She has taught and lectured extensively in the U.S., Asia, and Europe. Currently, she is a professor in the art, culture, and technology program at MIT.
