Enter a borderland where death intersects with daily life, where gravedigger Everard Hall still digs and fills graves by hand – and photographs the process. This show presents an expanded version of artist Thalassa Raasch’s book-in-progress “In Over My Head” which presents Hall’s unique image archive, Raasch’s own photographs, and the interdisciplinary research that binds these parallel labors. This collaborative work honors the fading role and craft of the traditional gravedigger soon to be replaced by a backhoe; Everard, Raasch, and the diggers before them honor a physical, quotidian understanding of death that is simultaneously beautiful, comfortable, difficult, and humorous.
