Emily Coffman
Emily Coffman, Registered Architect, LEED BD+C, MSW (she/her) is a multidisciplinary professional with expertise in architecture, social work, and community development. She serves as the curriculum and outreach coordinator for the Office for Socially Engaged Practice. In this role, Coffman supports collaborative practices in art, architecture, and design, working closely with faculty, staff, and students on curricular projects, outreach initiatives, and funding opportunities. She also provides administrative support for the Alberti Program: Architecture for Young People.
Previously, Coffman worked as an architect at a corporate firm, collaborating with non-profit clients, acting as a key resource for accessibility design, and participating in the firm’s lead sustainability group. She also has experience in community development, having worked in Madagascar as a social development consultant for the Missouri Botanical Garden and with Beyond Housing, focusing on neighborhood stabilization and housing rehabilitation.
Coffman is passionate about design and problem-solving aimed at creating equitable, accessible, sustainable, and resilient communities. She enjoys engaging with faculty, staff, students, and the community, advocating for equity, and advancing community-oriented design practices within the Sam Fox School.
Emily earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Kent State University and completed dual graduate degrees in architecture and social work at WashU.
