Kryptography: The art of writing and solving codes using an algorithm and key word to transform plaintext to an encypted text.
My whole life, I have loved solving puzzles. My dad used to create treasure hunts in my house for my brother and me. In restaurants we would draw ciphers on paper tablecloths and decode them. As I’ve gotten older, this passion has stuck with me. This collection, Kryptography, explores the idea of codebreaking in conceptual and literal ways. In our world, there is always something to try to understand, a message to decode. The collection offers chaos through the mixture of textures, original prints, and hand-knit textile, yet clarity through clean geometry and structure. Kryptography also employs an element of convertibility by incorporating removable, modular components of each look. Every look has been assigned a letter, encrypted using the Vigenere Square. The corresponding numbers to the ciphertext are represented by the number of buttons on each look. If someone were to know the keyword and to use the Vigenere Square, they could find the message. Each look is it’s own piece of the puzzle, with transformable elements that leave clues for a curious mind to decrypt.
