Society of Illustrators 64th Annual Exhibition

Professor John Hendrix (chair, MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture program), lecturer Edward Kinsella III, assistant professor Shreyas R Krishnan, Nat Thomas (BFA21), and Noah Jodice (BFA17, MFA-IVC22) had work accepted into the Society of Illustrators 64th Annual Exhibition.
The premier showcase for illustrators and animators, the SOI Annual Exhibition features over 400 pieces of the most outstanding works created throughout each year. Ping Zhu chaired this year’s jury, with Eugenia Mello serving as assistant chair.
The original works are exhibited at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators in a pair of exhibitions. Illustrators 64 Part One, featuring works in the Advertising, Institutional, Surface/Product Design, & Uncommissioned categories, will take place January 7-March 5, 2022. Illustrators 64 Part Two, featuring works in the Book and Editorial categories, will take place March 9-May 7, 2022. All works will be reproduced in full color in the Illustrators Annual Book.
John Hendrix
A series from Hendrix’ upcoming book The Holy Ghost, a collection of comics, was accepted into the Books category.
Edward Kinsella III
Kinsella had to two series accepted into the show: Misery (Books category) and ONIBABA (Advertising category). Flip through the carousel to see work from each series.
Shreyas R Krishnan
Krishnan’s portraits of contributors, editors, and funders of the Bystander Anthology were accepted in the Books category.
Nat Thomas
Thomas’ illustrated poster of a theoretical Rube Goldberg machine was accepted in the Uncomissioned category. The poster features a QR code in the bottom corner that links to a GIF showing how the machine functions. The work was originally created for the fall 2020 Illustrator’s Sketchbook course, taught by Krishnan.
Noah Jodice
Jodice’s GIF triptych Under the East River was accepted in the Uncommissioned Moving Image category. Jodice writes that the work is “about how I rode in a metal box under 80 feet of rock and water twice a day on the 7 train and the river never collapsed into the tunnel.” It was originally created for the fall 2021 Drawing + Voice course, taught by Hendrix and lecturer Dan Zettwoch.
