Applications Open for 2025 Stone & DeGuire Contemporary Art Awards
2024-11-01 • Sam Fox School
Applications are now open for the next cycle of Washington University’s Stone & DeGuire Contemporary Art Awards. Awarded annually, it is open to BFA and MFA alumni of the Sam Fox School’s College & Graduate School of Art working in sculpture, painting, or expanded media. Up to three winners are chosen by a faculty and alumni jury, and each receives $25,000 to advance their studio practice.
Artists can apply for the award now through February 2, 2025.
Recent winners include MacArthur “Genuis” Grant winner Ebony G. Patterson, MFA ’06; Lyndon Barrois, Jr., MFA ’13; Jill Downen, MFA ’01; Paula Wilson, BFA ’98; and Yvonne Osei, MFA ’16.
The awards are named for Nancy Stone, BFA ’70, and Lawrence DeGuire, BFA ’70, who met as undergraduate students at WashU. The husband-and-wife duo — who were married at Graham Chapel on campus — began their artistic collaboration in 1972. They enjoyed a long career as Stone & DeGuire, exhibiting widely on the West Coast. The annual awards honor their legacy, while allowing recent and mid-career alumni enhanced time and resources to continue exploring their unique artistic practices.
