About Arthur L. Prensky

Arthur L. Prensky, MD, HS57, was the first Allen P. and Josephine B. Green Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine. Over Prensky’s 45-year career, he has become a world authority in metabolic disorders, headache, and bioclinical abnormalities in the brain of neurologically impaired children. His writings have become the treasures of young neurologists-in-training, and he is well-known as the final authority in many areas of pediatric neurology.

An avid art and print collector, Prensky and his late wife, Sheila, made several generous gifts to the Sam Fox School and Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, including the donation of artworks by more than 100 noted contemporary artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, and Keith Haring.

In addition to creating The Arthur and Sheila Prensky Visiting Artist Endowment Fund to support Island Press, they established The Arthur L. and Sheila Prensky Acquisition Fund for Modern and Contemporary Works of Art, which supports the purchase of artworks by the Kemper Art Museum that have been created in multiples. Recent acquisitions through this fund include prints by Nicole Eisenman and Analia Saban.
