As director of Island Press since 2011, Lisa Bulawsky has facilitated residencies with nationally and internationally known artists, who work alongside students and research assistants in a collaborative and experimental workshop atmosphere. Additionally, she is a professor and chair of the MFA in Visual Art program in the Sam Fox School, where she has taught courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels since 1996. Her practice is driven by questions concerning the nature of time and the representation of historical events of both a personal and collective scope. Full bio
Tom Reed is the master printer at Island Press, as well as a senior lecturer in art and printmaking area coordinator in the Sam Fox School. He received his training as a printer from Landfall Press in Chicago, where he served as an intaglio printer with Jack Lemon and Steve Campbell. A practicing artist, his work has been the focal point of several solo and group exhibitions, including at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis and Elmhurst Museum of Art. He earned his MFA from the University of Iowa. Full bio
Erin Johnston is a multidisciplinary artist whose material interests lie within the fields of printmaking, painting, and paper sculpture. An early academic background in conservation biology informs her artistic inquiries, which aim to explore the intersections between living and manufactured ecosystems, consumerism and mortality. Johnston graduated with her MFA from the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in 2022. She earned a post baccalaureate in studio art from Eastern Washington University in 2020, and a BS in wildlife biology from The Evergreen State College in 2013. She has exhibited work in St. Louis, Washington, and Idaho. She has produced public works for the City of Spokane, including a mural located within City Hall, and is the illustrator of “Búhos de Colombia,” a published field guide to Colombian owls. She is a recent recipient of an artist support grant through the Regional Arts Commission. Johnston teaches printmaking at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, and is the post-graduate fellow at Island Press.
