Marshall Arisman graduated from the Pratt Institute with a degree in graphic design in 1960. He quickly abandoned graphic design to pursue art and illustration. Today he is chairman of the Fine Arts Program in Illustration as Visual Essay at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and divides his time between painting, illustrating, and teaching.
Arisman’s paintings are figurative works that explore man’s capacity for violence. His work is included in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum and the National Museum of American Art. His editorial illustrations, which also deal with issues of violence in contemporary society, appear regularly in the New York Times, Time Magazine, Rolling Stone, Playboy, Omni, and Esquire.
