About the artist
Rita DeWitt earned BFA and MFA degrees at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. She taught at the University of Southern Mississippi, Smith College, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before taking her current teaching position at the Rhode Island School of Design.
DeWitt uses digital technology and photography to produce works that explore history, memory, and self. She has won several awards, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Her work is held in the collections of the Fogg Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Art, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth.
