About the artist
Phyllis Plattner earned a bachelor’s degree from Bennington College in 1960, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate School in California in 1962. She taught at Washington University in St. Louis from 1981-1985, and at the Maryland Institute College of Art from 1987 until the present.
Plattner works in the photorealist style, using watercolors to create images that look almost photographic. Her work is in the permanent collections of the St. Louis Art Museum and the Springfield Art Museum in Missouri. Plattner has received the St. Louis Mayor’s Award for the Arts and an award from the Mid-Atlantic States National Endowment for the Arts.
