About the artist
Painter and printmaker Edda Renouf came to the United States from Mexico in 1957. She then went to Paris, where she attended La Sorbonne Institut d'Art et Archéologie and l'Académie Julian before completing her BA from Sarah Lawrence University in 1965. She then studied at the Art Students League in New York and Munich’s Akademie der Bildenkunste before completing her MFA at the School of the Arts of Columbia University in 1971. Following her MFA, she returned to Paris on a painting fellowship from Columbia.
Renouf uses rhythmic, linear patterns and subtle gradations of color to produce her minimalist canvases. She has received numerous awards, among them grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Renouf’s work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Australian National Gallery in Canberra, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
