About the artist
Photographer Catherine Wagner earned BA and MA degrees from San Francisco State University. She has taught photography at Mills College in Oakland, California, since 1978.
Wagner often uses series of single images to suggest larger narratives. Among her eclectic list of subjects is the recurrent theme of science in contemporary society. Her work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Museum of American Art of the Smithsonian Institution, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris. She has received two NEA Fellowships in photography, two Mellon Foundation grants, a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, and a Ferguson Grant.
